Nissan Cherry (called also nissan N12) - was produced in 1982-86 in Japan as a three- or five- door car with a front-wheel drive. It is square profiled, rather low but wide. It is also a light car, which ensures economical petrol consumption.
Most of the Cherries are extinct now, and models which are still alive are rare. Despite its age, good care will result in reliability.
The comfort of driving is ensured through the considerable space in the car. The decor of the interior is of high quality, just like in other Japanese cars. On the other hand, poor suspension is the biggest trouble in this car (of course in my opinion).
The boot is big enough for two or three people. Thanks to foldaway seats and big tailgate N12 may carry large luggage (such as a canoe).
Most people will not recognize Nissan Cherry (they will probably say: "any Japanese car"). You can be sure that there are no other cherries on your car park ( there may be one). Unidentification is a great advantage when you meet car's thief. Nissan Cherry is a very cheap and rare car, that is why theft is unprofitable (or less profitable than stealing a car staying nearby ;-)) ).
Talking about money - The most important thing with a used car is the cost of maintenance. I don't want to generalize - it depends on its history (especially - who has been using n12 before and how). ADAC says that Cherries are good cars (which Japanese makes are not? ). Unfortunately, parts for this car aren't cheap. Therefore, some Cherry owners buy another Cherry as "part store".
Cherry is not a swanky car. Most of the swankers prefer German cars (esp.BMW) or Hondas. Rich people avoid cars which are older than 5 years. So, who is a Cherry driver? Most of them are less affluent students, young men or young couples (sometimes with children).
Is Cherry worth buying? It depends on its history, owners, and on you. If you are not afraid of opening the hood, sometimes only to check our favourite's condition, you may think about it.
